CPM ready with a booklet on Mamata to counter her

The Marxist party is ready with a booklet to launch vis-a-vis Mamata Banerjee’s announcement of releasing a 200-day report card of her government, which is learnt to have highlighted the issue of Darjeeling impasse, Maoists menace, employment generation. The CPI(M) in its part, in what appears a point-wise rebuttal, said all these claims of the chief minister are nothing but “a mere exaggeration and hyperbolic”.
Dubbing her as a “dictator”, it stated, “The way the Trinamul chief minister Mamata Banerjee had asked the Opposition Left Front to remain silent for coming 10 years reflects her dictatorial attitude which tends to gag the voice of critics. It reminds only the days of the late 70’s when the voice of the Opposition parties was gagged by the ruling Congress under Indira Gandhi during the Emergency in the country. Now being an ally of the Congress, the Trinamul Congress wants to gag the voice of the Opposition,” it pointed out. Describing Mamata Banerjee’s claims that she had done a volume of work within seven months of taking charge as “bogus”, the upcoming booklet said, “What she had actually been able to achieve was a record of complicating issues further rather than solving them during the period.” It also criticised the state government for its inability to present a full-fledged Budget even after six months of governance and accused Ms Banerjee of running the state in the same manner as she had mishandled the railway ministry.
“The government hasn’t yet been able to achieve what it had promised for Singur, Darjeeling and Junglemahal.”
“First is Darjeeling. What is happening there and what is the accord? How could the government include in the treaty (to form the Gorkhaland Territorial Administ-ration) the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha’s point that they are not giving up the statehood demand? Is the government agreeable to the demand for a separate state?” it questioned.
Taking a potshot at Ms Banerjee’s announcement of a special package for Jungalmahal. It asserted that it is not enough to announce a package. it stated, “The LF government had set up schools, distributed land and sunk deep tubewells in Jungalmahal. But that’s not the issue there. The bigger problem is to find ways to tackle Maoists.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
