CPM wants JD (S) to decide
Thiruvananthapuram: Clinging to technicalities, the CPM state secretariat on Saturday decided not to seek the resignation of Jose Thettayil MLA, who is caught in a sex scam.
The secretariat felt that it’s for the JD(S) to decide the question of Thettayil’s resignation and that there was no need for the CPM to interfere in the internal matters of that party. Even on the question of morality, the decision should be left to the former minister and his party, it felt.
Opposition Leader V.S. Achuthanandan, who had earlier demanded Thettayil’s resignation, too seems have toned down his stand. At a press conference here, he said that the LDF had not discussed the matter yet. As it was an internal matter of the JD(S), it should take an appropriate decision, he said.
In Kozhikode, the CPI state secretariat too softened its position. “We cannot force a decision on the LDF constituent. The LDF is yet to discuss the issue and it is the internal matter of the party. Each party would have different views on such issues,’’ said CPI state secretary Pannyan Raveendran.
The CPM central leadership, which received a letter from Mr Achuthanandan seeking its intervention in the Thettayil issue, felt that the matter should be discussed at the state level. It was up to the JD(S) to take a decision on moral grounds. However, the central leaders agreed with Mr Achuthanandan’s view that the issue involved probity in public life.
With the CPM reiterating its stand in favour of Thettayil and Mr Achuthanandan and the CPI not pressing for his resignation, the tainted JD(S) MLA has clearly got a breather for the moment.
Efforts on to nab Jose Thettayil’s son
Kochi: After raiding the residences of Jose Thettayil and the victim, the special investigation team probing the sex scam has launched a hunt for Thettayil’s son Adarsh who is second accused in the case.
Adarsh has gone underground since the scam surfaced, according to SIT sources. He was working as the HR manager of an entertainment house based in Mumbai.
Adarsh was also active on Facebook till June 16, but left the online platform on the day the woman complained against his father. The former minister is also believed to be hiding out in a bid to avoid the police radar. The SIT, which has not been keen on seeking the Speaker’s permission for arresting the legislator, is now believed to be buckling up to take Adarsh in custody.
However, Ajeetha Beegum Sulthana, the investigation officer, refused to reveal the SIT’s next move saying it would affect the probe. Meanwhile, the sleuths are examining the authenticity of the video clip submitted by the woman.
The cops went through the CCTV visuals of the apartment in the last 10 days to check if Thettayil had come to the apartment. A hard disc that contains CCTV visuals has also been taken.
