Chennai: An unidentified man sexually abused a 10-year-old girl near the Red Hills area after picking her up from her residence in the early hours of Sunday when the girl’s parents were asleep.
The daughter of a construction labourer, Sivabalan (name changed), the victim is a class 5 student at a government school nearby, the police said. The parents of the girl rescued her, finding her in a secluded area near her house after searching for her frantically.
The police said she was grievously injured and bleeding and was being treated at the Egmore children’s hospital. The Sholavaram police have registered a case and are investigating.
They suspect that the abuser was known to the victim, but are unable to get a fix on the person as the girl was not cooperating. The police said the girl told them that the man had woken her up and asked her to accompany him to a nearby teashop.
Sholavaram inspector Balu said from the clues available with them, it seemed that the girl had walked along with the person up to the spot. But she was giving contradictory statements about the identity of the man, he added.

Rwandan held for rape
Cuddalore: Police arrested on Sunday, a 22-year-old Rwandan national for allegedly raping a 20-year-old woman from his country at Chida­mbaram.
Bruce Adeen Oliver, studying second year M.Sc in Information Technology at Annamalai University was produced before a local court and remanded to custody.
Police sources said the victim, also hailing from Rwanda, had recently joined first year in M.A. Rural Development in the University.
“She was staying in a hostel on the campus while the man was staying in a rented house in Raja Muthiah Nagar in Chidam­baram. On Saturday, she went to his house in Raja Muthiah Nagar when he sexually assaulted her,” Annamalai Nagar station inspector (in charge) Muruganandham told this newspaper.
Based on a complaint from the girl, police arrested Bruce Adeen Oliver and registered a case. Further enquiries are on.

Hyderabad: Suspecting the fidelity of his wife, a man attacked her in an inebriated state and killed himself at his house in Tellapur, Ramachandrapuram thinking that she was dead. However, the woman survived.
The couple used to quarrel over her alleged unfaithfulness. After one such fight he slit her throat. Later he took poison to kill himself. The deceased T. Prabhakar Reddy, 46, a labourer, is a resident of Tellapur village.
Ramachandrapuram in Medak District. He is survived by his wife Ramadevi and two sons.
Prabhakar Reddy, who earlier worked as a laborer at various construction sites, stopped working and got addicted to alcohol. It was Ramadevi who would work and was the sole bread winner. He was dependent on her for money to buy liquor too.
Very often he would come home drunk and pick a fight with her in an inebriated state. Apart from this, he suspected Ramadevi’s fidelity and questioned her many times but  she always denied it. The couple had frequent arguments because of this. “He stopped going to work and stayed home, drinking,” said M.Ravinder, Sub-Inspector of Police, Ramachandrapuram.
Recently Ramadevi started to construct a house in the Weaker Section near their present home. She spent most of her earnings on this and even put herself in debt to finish the work. At times when there was shortage of money, he would demand that she give him money to drink.
On Friday night, he came home drunk and started an argument with her for not giving him money. He also questioned her fidelity. After a heated argument, Prabhakar grabbed a knife nearby and slit Ramadevi’s throat. He hit her on the head with an iron rod and she fell down. Later, he consumed poison.
“Both of them were shifted to the hospital. While Prabhakar was taken to the ESI hospital, Ramadevi was admitted in Image hospitals. Ramadevi is fine and recovering, but Prabhakar Reddy died late in the night on Saturday, ” Ravinder said. A case has been registered and is being investigated.

MBA grad stabbed to death
Chennai: The police suspect the wife of a 30-year-old MBA graduate to be behind his death after he was stabbed to death at his residence in Ambattur on Sunday morning.
The victim, identified as Ramachandran, a resident of Banu nagar, in Ambattur, was working in a private firm, the police said. The man’s wife Gowri, 30, is a bank employee.
Police investigations revealed that the couple used to have frequent arguments ever since they were married three years back. On Sunday, on hearing screams from the man’shouse, neighbours rushed there to find Ramachandran bleeding from cuts on his neck and stomach.
He was immediately rushed to the Kilpauk medical college hospital, where he died. The Ambattur police have registered a case and are investigating.

Nizamabad: A forest range officer was killed and seven injured in an attack by the villagers of Nallavelli and K.K. Thanda in Dharpally mandal on Saturday midnight. The villagers were illegally cultivating reserved forest land.
The officer who was killed in the attack was 38-year-old R. Gangaiah.
According to police, 11 members of the forest team from the Indalwai office led by Gangaiah drove to K.K. Thanda on Saturday night after receiving information that villagers were illegally cultivating reserve forest land. The villagers resisted the forest officers and heated arguments ensued.
Gangaiah tried to call the police on his mobile phone, which angered the villagers who attacked the forest team with sticks and axes and throwing chilli powder. Gangaiah was felled by blows from an axe.
Injured officers in hospital
Nizamabad: After an attack by the villagers of  Nallavelli and K.K. Thanda in Dharpally mandal on Saturday midnight, the forest team fled leaving the slain 38-year-old R. Gangaiah there. They informed the police in Nizamabad early on Sunday morning.
It took another three hours for the police to reach the spot. The injured are in hospital and out of danger.
The relatives of the slain forest officer have demanded action against those responsible for his death. Collector P.S. Pradyumna, SP K.V. Mohan Rao, Nizamabad DSP Anil Kumar, DFO Bheema and other officials visited the crime scene and have assured action will be taken.
Gangaiah is from Sangem in Bodhan mandal. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
Mohan Rao told DC that 35 people who attacked the officer have been identified. “We have taken a few of them into custody and have seized a tractor, auto and cycles used by the killers.” accused persons.” Five special teams have been formed to nab the culprits, he added.
There is an ongoing dispute over cultivation of land near K.K. Thanda in Dharpally mandal. Some 240 acres of forest land and 60 acres of revenue land is being encroached on by Nallavelli and K.K.Thanda villagers.
Some of the villagers argue that they possess the pattadar pass books for the land, but forest officials declare that it is reserve forest. Reportedly, some of the attackers had recently visited the forest range office in Indalwai to argue the issue of land rights.

Man attempts suicide in police station
Hyderabad: A suspect who was  arrested in a theft case attempted suicide at the Chilkalguda police station on Sunday evening. The accused Shiva Kumar, 23, a resident of Manikeswarnagar, drank a cleaning solution inside the toilet.
Shiva, who fell unconscious, was shifted to Gandhi hospital for treatment. Police officials said that he is out of danger and recovering. The police refused to comment about the reason behind the suicide attempt.
The police had taken Shiva and two other people into custody in connection with a house burglary case.
The trio were arrested on Sunday morning and were interrogated by the cops. However, later unnoticed by the cops, Shiva drank the cleaning solution. North Zone deputy commissioner of police R. Jayalakshmi said that an inquiry has been launched regarding this.
“We have initiated an inquiry to find out how it occurred. The reason behind his action is not yet confirmed. However, he is out of danger and is in hospital now,” said Jayalakshmi.
Shiva Kumar, who was arrested by the police in the past, is alleged to have committed many house burglaries in Chilkalguda police station and Osmania University police station limits.

Hyderabad: An unidentified man aged around 40 was strangled, and his body was thrown in the Rampally village lake in Keesera late on Saturday. On Saturday evening locals found a body floating in the lake and alerted the cops.
The cops retrieved the body from the lake and found a strangulation mark around the neck probably caused by a rope. The body was shifted to the hospital for postmortem and for preserving. The police registered a case and is being investigated.

Boy swallows bottle cap, dies
Hyderabad:  A nine-month-old boy died after swallowing a bottle cap with which he was playing on Sunday at Kothakota in Mahabubnagar district. The cap which he swallowed choked him, eventually leading to his death. The infant Rakesh, is the second son of labourers Nagaraj and Lakshmi.
The infant was playing with the bottle cap. Both the parents were out on work and he was left with a relative. Though the boy was rushed to hospital he died on way.
As soon the parents learnt what had happened to their child, they came home running and found him dead. They broke down in tears on seeing their child lain lifeless.

Chennai: A 13-year-old student, playing with a dog on the terrace of a building, fell from there and died in Royapuram on Sunday.
The police said Premsai, 13, studying class 8 in a school, was the son of Rajendran who runs a hotel in Kalmandabam.
Premsai fell when he attempted to jump from one building to another from the terrace. He is said to have suffered grievious injuries. He was rushed to Stanley medical college hospital but died on way.The Royapuram police registered a case and are investigating.

He was a resident of Santoshnagar in Karimnagar town.  Police registered a cased based on a complaint filed by the deceased’s family members, said II-Town police inspector Vijay Kumar.
