YSRC leader in dacoity case
Hyderabad: One of the accused in the Rs 1 crore dacoity case in Alwal emerged to be a local YSR Congress leader from Nizamabad district. Two days after arresting Pedda Pattolla Siddartha Reddy and eight others in connection with the case, the police on Monday revealed that the former had helped the main accused, D. Anvesh, mobilise the gang.
Sinddartha Reddy had been an active YSR Congress leader in the Yellareddy mandal but had recently shifted to the city, said the police. According to Alwal inspector B. Pushpan Kumar, Siddartha Reddy is a close acquaintance of Anvesh.
“When Anvesh approached Siddartha Reddy and revealed his plan, he introduced his car driver Dattatreya to the former and assured that he could mobilise a gang for the robbery. With the help of Dattatreya, they recruited six more people and carried out the robbery,” he said.
On February 25, the six had barged into a house at Khanojiguda armed with country-made firearms and knives and robbed a businesswoman named Jayanti. Anvesh had given a few lakh rupees to the businesswoman from Panjagutta to buy gold.
However, she had not returned the money nor delivered the gold. Anvesh thus decided to rob Jayanti and recover the money. On Saturday, Alwal police arrested the nine-member gang and recovered stolen property worth Rs 60 lakh from their possession.
