Hyderabad: An autorickshaw driver, who is yet to be identified, allegedly raped a woman at HAL colony in Jeedimetla on Sunday.
The accused autorickahaw driver, who realised that the 32-year-old victim was new to the city, took her to a secluded place and allegedly raped her.
The victim, who is a native of Miryalaguda, was found crying on the roadside by the locals, who immediately informed the police. The Jeedimetla police said that the victim was on her way to her relative’s house, at Suraram Colony, when the incident took place.
The autorickshaw driver fled from the area before the police and locals reached the spot. The woman told the police that after a quarrel with her husband, she left Miryalaguda on Sunday and reached Hyderabad late at night. She hired the autorickshaw and gave the driver the address of her relative’s residence in Suraram Colony.
However, the driver took lone passenger to a deserted area at HAL and overpowered her, the police said. After raping the woman, the driver abandoned her and fled the scene. Jeedimetla inspector, M. Sudharshan, said the woman showed symptoms of mental illness.
“She is not able to give the exact account of the incident and the autorickshaw driver. However, we have got a vague account of the incident,” he said. Local residents, who found the victim on the road, also could not give any details about the vehicle. On a complaint filed by the victim, police has booked a rape case under Section 376 of the IPC and has initiated an investigation.
The victim was taken for medical examination, and her condition is stated to be stable.

YSRC leader in dacoity case
Hyderabad: One of the accused in the Rs 1 crore dacoity case in Alwal emerged to be a local YSR Congress leader from Nizamabad district. Two days after arresting Pedda Pattolla Siddartha Reddy and eight others in connection with the case, the police on Monday revealed that the former had helped the main accused, D. Anvesh, mobilise the gang.
Sinddartha Reddy had been an active YSR Congress leader in the Yellareddy mandal but had recently shifted to the city, said the police. According to Alwal inspector B. Pushpan Kumar, Siddartha Reddy is a close acquaintance of Anvesh.
“When Anvesh approached Siddartha Reddy and revealed his plan, he introduced his car driver Dattatreya to the former and assured that he could mobilise a gang for the robbery. With the help of Dattatreya, they recruited six more people and carried out the robbery,” he said.
On February 25, the six had barged into a house at Khanojiguda armed with country-made firearms and knives and robbed a businesswoman named Jayanti. Anvesh had given a few lakh rupees to the businesswoman from Panjagutta to buy gold.
However, she had not returned the money nor delivered the gold. Anvesh thus decided to rob Jayanti and recover the money. On Saturday, Alwal police arrested the nine-member gang and recovered stolen property worth Rs 60 lakh from their possession.
