Thanjavur: An eight-year-old girl, who mysteriously went missing on Saturday morning, was found murdered in an irrigation canal in Peravurani on Sunday. Pooja, daughter of Solai of Sengollai, in Peravurani, and studying class 3 in a panchayat union elementary school in the same area, left from home at 7 am on Saturday to answer nature’s call.

But, she did not return home for long. Her parents grew suspicious and searched for her in the neighbourhood and houses of relatives, but to no avail. Solai then lodged a complaint at the Peravurani police station. Police registered a case of girl missing and were investigating.
Meanwhile,the girl was found dead inside an irrigation canal near her house on Sunday. On being informed, the police retrieved the body and sent it to the government hospital for the post mortem.

Hyderabad:  A 45-year-old housewife committed suicide by consuming poison at her house in Patancheru. She was shifted to a nearby private hospital for treatment where she died. The cops suspect that illness could be the probable reason for her suicide and not family disputes.
V. Munni Bai 45, wife of Balu, is a resident of Ilapur Thanda in Medak District. According to police officials in Patancheru, Munni Bai was suffering from chronic illness for sometime. Though she got herself treated there was no improvement in her condition and was depressed over not recovering.

Chennai: In a freak act, a 30-year-old man sleeping at the Koyambedu bus terminus was inflicted serious wounds by an unidentified person on Sunday morning. Jayaram, a caterer, was sleeping at the CMBT premises after returning from his place of work when an unidentified person started attacking him with a sickle inflicting deep cuts all over his body.
The public, who were sleeping around were awakened by Jayaraj’s cries and immediately contacted the police who rescued the man and admitted him at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital where he is said to be in a serious condition.
Koyambedu Police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the unidentified person who attempted to kill the caterer. Police suspect business enmity to be the motive behind the attempted murder.

Bilaspur: A seven-year-old girl was raped on a moving train near Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh and later dumped at Bilaspur railway station, police said on Sunday. The incident came to light Saturday, when the victim was found severely injured in Kotwali area, they said.
"The girl was found seriously injured and profusely bleeding near Bhakt Kanwarram Market near Kotwali police station after which she was admitted to the Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) hospital last morning," Bilaspur Superintendent of Police Ratanlal Dangi told PTI.
The victim's medical examination has confirmed rape, he added. The girl was travelling on the Howrah-Kurla Express and when she went to relieve herself on Saturday an unidentified man allegedly followed her there and raped her, the victim said in her complaint.
Later the accused dumped her at Bilaspur railway station after giving her a Rs 10 note, the SP said. "Although the police have not been able to record her statement because of her severe injuries, she narrated the incident to the Kotwali police as she was being taken to hospital," the SP added.
"She was unable to tell how she managed to reach the city from Bilaspur railway station," he said. A case has been registered against an unknown person, while efforts are on to ascertain his identity, he said. Meanwhile, the railway police has announced a cash reward of Rs 25,000 for information on the accused and are investigating closed circuit television camera footage from the railway station.
Bilaspur railway station's Senior Divisional Security Commissioner B Ramakrishna said that the girl's condition is critical.

New Delhi: A 16-year-old boy was beaten to death allegedly by three teenagers, who extorted money from him to purchase cigarettes, after he complained to the mother of one of them about his harassment.
Sandeep, a Class IX student, was killed in Pandav Nagar area of East Delhi, according to police. All the three attackers are juveniles and have been taken into custody. Two of them are students of Class XII while one of them is in Class X. They all lived in the same colony, police said.
"One of the three boys demanded money from Sandeep to purchase cigarettes. Sandeep, however, informed his mother about the harassment," said a senior police official. Annoyed over the issue, the three boy in an act of revenge planned and attacked Sandeep, the official said. Sandeep was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead. According to doctors, the boy died of internal injuries.

Woman, businessman, murdered in city
Chennai: The city witnessed two murders over Friday and Saturday. A 60-year-old woman was killed and valuables and cash stolen from her house. Muniammal, a resident of Gandhi Nagar, Sholinganallur, was found lying dead with her throat slit at her residence off Old Mahabalipuram Road on Saturday.
She lived alone on her late husband’s pension. Her only son had also died a few years ago in a road accident. When neighbours, alarmed at not seeing her for a while, checked in on her house, they found her body and informed the police.
The Semmenchery police sent the body to the government Royapettah hospital for a post mortem. Investigations revealed that the woman may have been killed in the morning, the killers making off with the gold chains and ornaments on her person in a robbery attempt that was clearly for personal gain.
The police on Sunday arrested a man in connection with the death of a 51-year-old businessman, Selvaraj, at his company’s premises last Friday. On investigations, it was found that Selvaraj’s business partner, Arasakumaran, had been absconding since his death.
The police arrested him on Sunday morning near Nerkundram. The police said Arasakumaran had hit Selvaraj with a lock.

3 of family killed in bus-car smash
Madurai: Three persons of a family were killed when a private bus collided with their car near Madurai on Sunday. Marimuthu (67), his wife Dhanapathi (63), their gra­ndchildren Priyaja (9) and Pradeep (11) were travelling to Chennai from Tha­la­vaipuram, near Raja­p­a­layam, in Virudh­unagar district on Sunday to see off their relative who was going abroad.
When their car was moving on the four-lane national highway near Tamil Nadu Agriculture College in Othakadai, in Madurai district, a private bus, bound for Mattuthavani bus stand in Madurai from Kallal, coming in the opposite direction, took a turn at the intersection to take the Othakadai road.
The speeding bus collided with the car, which was also moving at great speed, the police said. In the impact, the car was smashed beyond recognition and Marimuthu and Dhanapathi were crushed to death.
On information, the Othakadai police rushed to the spot. Struggling to retrieve the bodies trapped inside the car, they utilised the services of an earthmover that was passing by. The two kids and driver Vijayakumar (23) were rescued and sent to the government Rajaji hospital by 108 ambulance service.
However, Priyaja died on way to hospital. The condition of Pradeep, who suffered grievous injuries, is stated to be critical.
