He convinced us to withdraw the case from court, saying he would settle the matter with my brother. Trusting him, I withdrew the case.”

‘Invisible Aghori’ robs lecturer of Rs 23 lakh
Bengaluru: More often than not, men and women of science refuse to believe in astrology and rituals, considering them ‘inaccurate’ and ‘fallacious”. In a rare case, a middle-aged computer science lecturer with a government engineering college in Bengaluru was conned of Rs 23 lakh by an astrologer, who claimed to be an “invisible aghori”.
The victim Suma (name changed) came across a newspaper advertisement about the astrologer Babaji Guru, who claimed to provide solution to all problems. Suma, a resident of Nagarhbavi, called the astrologer on the number in the advertisement as she faced work-related issues.
The baba told her that he was invisible and his ashram was in Sringeri in Chikmagalur district. He also claimed that he had adopted around 180 children from the Siddaganga Mutt in Tumkur and all his earnings went to his ashram.
The baba initially charged a meagre sum for providing solutions. After gaining her confidence, he made her reveal her family history. With the information in hand, he started playing mind games with her.
He put the fear of god in Suma and told her that she would lose either her husband or her son if she did not perform certain rituals, which would cost her nearly Rs 25 lakh. Reinforcing her fear, he called Suma again and told her that her son would not survive for more than 21 days as he could foresee someone killing the son.
Suma, who was already scared by baba’s predictions, handed over 10 years of her savings along with 150 gm of gold ornaments, amounting to Rs 23 lakh. The baba kept telling her that she should not reveal her interactions with him to anyone as she could face further problems.
Though the baba kept in touch with her over several days, Suma never met him personally. When the money had to be collected, the baba sent one Manjunath, his alleged disciple to her house. She got suspicious only when baba’s predictions went wrong and, fortunately for her, nothing bad happened to her son. She started demanding her money back.
But the baba refused to return the money and threatened her that he would inflict a curse on her if she continued to demand the money. A frustrated Suma approached the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) West-division. The officer has formed a team and has laid a manhunt for the astrologer and his disciple.
