Hyderabad: A Special Operation team of Cyberabad police on Tuesday busted a three-member gang, including a police constable, who lured gullible youth promising jobs as home guards, and took lakhs of rupees from them.
The arrested accused are G. Nagendra Prasad, a security guard from Nagarjunasagar, Y. Madhu, 36, a constable employed with the Police Transport Organisation in city, and U. Anitha Kumari from Rajahmundry.

Around 40 people were duped by the trio. Some of them were even given fake appointment letters.
Cyberabad police commissioner C.V. Anand said the main accused in the case, Nagendra Prasad, met police constable Madhu 10 months ago and introduced himself as a reserve inspector in the CM’s security.
“He convinced Madhu that he had good contacts in the DGP’s office and could get people appointed as home guards easily. He sought Rs 1 lakh for each candidate,” Anand said.
Madhu contacted 40 aspirants from Srikakulam, Vizinagaram and Eluru and convinced them. “He collected the amount along with an extra `20,000 as his commission,” the commissioner said.
After six months, the candidates started pressurising Madhu for their appointment orders. When Madhu repeatedly asked Nagendra Prasad for the orders, he prepared fake documents and handed these over to the candidates, the official said.
The Special Operation team got a tip off from Chaitanyapuri, and started investigation. The case is now being handled by them.
Fake police uniforms, home guard application forms, and fake appointment letters were seized from the accused.
Nagendra Prasad, originally a private security guard, was remanded twice before for making false promises and cheating people.

Jewellery shop burgled
Hyderabad: Burglars broke into a jewellery shop near the dargah at Nampally Y-junction in Habeebnagar on Monday night and escaped with about 50 tolas of gold and 15 kilograms of silver ornaments.

The incident came to light only in the morning when the owner came to open the shop. The robbers entered the shop by making a hole on the roof of the shop from the rear. Police suspects that at least one of the robbers is a person who is knowledgeable about the shop and the places where valuable ornaments are kept.

Govardhan Jewellers, a 20-year-old shop, was right  next to Himalaya Book Shop in Nampally. The shop, which is attached to a 100-year-old house, was an easy target as the robbers made their way into the shop from the unused building.

Assistant commissioner of police D. Srinivas said, “The robbers damaged the display glasses and robbed gold and silver ornaments kept there. Ornaments in the shelves were taken away, but gold and silver in the lockers were not touched, or it would have been a still greater loss for the owner.”

“We suspect that the robbers had complete knowledge of the shop, as they took only valuable  gold and silver ornaments and left the duplicate gold ornaments,” said Venkateshwar, inspector of police, Habeebnagar.

Based on a complaint lodged by the shop owner Govardhan, a resident of Kanti Bazaar, a case has been registered and is being investigated.

There were no CC cameras fixed in the shop, by which the robbers could have been traced. “Though we have informed all shop keepers to fix cameras in their shops, the owner has not done so, citing that it would be removed anyway during the road widening. The ACP also has organised many awareness programmes and asked them to fix surveillance cameras, but most of them have not done it,” said the inspector.

“Late in the night, they received a call from the Kodigehalli police that Manjunath’s Toyota Innova was found near a Shell petrol bunk in Sheegehalli.
The police said that the driver was absconding and there were blood stains and knives inside the SUV. His family members rushed to the spot and started searching for Manjunath.
His phone was switched off and he was not found at the houses of his relatives or friends. Around 8 am on Monday, Manjunath’s elder brother Nagaraj went to Mahadevapura police station and filed a missing complaint,” the police said.
As the police were investigating, a charred body was found at Ajjappanahalli near Kesaranahalli Road, around 8-10 km from Bangarpet. The description given by Bangarpet police matched with Manjunath. His family went to the spot and identified the body.
KGF subdivision DySP Gurumurthy said that Manjunath was stabbed to death before he was burnt in a field. “Some passersby noticed the body and informed the police around 8.30 am.

Ex-staffer’s role seen in big heist
Rajahmundry:  The police is suspecting the role of an ex-employee and few other staff in the heist at Scientific Security Management Services, where Rs 7.31 crore was looted and its in charge, P. Srinivas, was killed.
Police sources said they suspect the role of G. Saipratap Reddy, who was the in-charge at SSMS earlier. He is also the son-in-law of the security agency’s driver, P. Ramana Reddy. After Saipratap Reddy’s removal from the post, Srinivas was appointed as the in-charge of the agency. Saipratap Reddy, who is an alcoholic, is said to be in debts and wanted to clear them, by getting money by dubious means.
It is learnt that Saipratap Reddy, who hails from the suburbs of Kunta village of Chhattisgarh, brought in a gang to help him with his plan. Based on circumstantial evidence, that there was no forced entry into the SSMS office on the fateful night, as both the doors were intact, the police suspect that some familiar person made Srinivas open the door. Once he opened the door, members of the gang entered the office and beat up Srinivas severely, causing his death. They later hanged his body from the ceiling.
The suspicion on the role of Saipratap Reddy in the loot and murder at SSMS gained credence as he has been missing for the last few days. Special teams were sent to Kunta and other places to find out the main suspect and his accomplices in the crime. The police is also looking for other evidence; the role of the main suspect’s  mobilephone  call logs, the places he frequently visited, and his acquaintances.
The police is questioning the present staffs; which includes the security guards and the vehicle driver and also some exemployees, to find out the culprits. As the culprits used a gas cutter to open the locker for the keys of the cash chest, the police suspect the hand of some professional criminals.
It is said the criminals gained entry into the SSMS office in the early hours on Monday as the deceased made a phone call to his girl friend from his office at about 11.30 pm on Sunday.
Urban SP T. Ravi Kumar Murthy said, "We are working on several leads in the case and we are confident to nab the culprits very soon."
Meanwhile, the family members of slain Srinivas staged a protest at three town police station seeking financial aid and a job to one of the family members. It is learnt that the representatives of the agency have assured to provide insurance coverage and relief worth about Rs seven lakhs and a job.
