Woman burns rapist to death
Patna: A middle-aged widow in Bihar burnt to death a drunken man who allegedly raped her after entering her house on Tuesday when she was alone.
The woman, a resident of a village under Parsa Bazar police station near Patna, was arrested for murdering Bhola Thakur, 45, who allegedly raped her. A mother of three grown-up children, she was on Wednesday presented at a Patna court and sent for medical examination. She said she has “absolutely no repentance” for killing Thakur.
The woman, aged about 45, said all her pleas and resistance failed as a drunken Thakur, a father of four grown-up daughters, raped her.
“She then soaked a sari with kerosene and poured kerosene on Thakur before setting the sari on fire and throwing it on him. She came out of her house and closed the door, leaving Thakur burn to death,” police said.
Former Bihar DGP D.P. Ojha supported the woman’s action, saying: “A person’s first duty is self-protection. What this woman did seems apt in the dire situation she had found herself in”.
 

Sex racket extorts more than Rs 3 cr
Kozhikode: The city police arrested four members of a gang which extorted money and valuables worth crores by blackmailing wealthy persons after they were lured into `safe houses' in the guise of offering them sexual services. Police said the gang comprised 25 members that included six women.
The arrest was made on a complaint filed by Muhammed Shafi, a native of Malappuram, who was cheated by the gang. The gangsters lured Shafi into a house at Malapparambu, offering sexual services.
The gang then blackmailed him and took Rs 10,000, $100 and a watch from him.
When the gang demanded Rs.5 lakh more, he filed a complaint, that led to the arrest of Sakkeena and Kadeeja last month. The four were Pulikkalmanzil Nissar alias Babu, 32, a native of Malappuram, Koodoli Nizamudheen alias Paithal, 28, native of A i k k a r a p p a d i , K a m b u r a t h k u z h i y i l Noushad, 29, native of Edacherikunnu and Omanoor Pulikkalveettil Abdul Latheef alias Bava, 34. Two women members of the gang --Pullorkunnu Zakkeena, 32, a native of Nenmeni, Sulthan Bathery, Wayanad, and Chalakkattil Kadeeja, 34, a native of Kolathoor near Valanchery had been arrested earlier.
The total valuables extorted from nearly eight persons, including money and jewellery, were of the order of Rs.3 crore. In one case, 14.5 cents land of a person at Perinthalmanna in Malappuram district had been forcibly registered in the name of Rasheed, the mastermind of the gang.
A native of Malappuram, and an accused in a murder case, Rasheed is absconding.
City police commissioner Sparjan Kumar said the gangsters would first identify wealthy persons and honey-trap them. Contacts were made mostly through mobile phones.The women would assess the financial status of the client and other details. Other gangsters would take pictures of men in compromising positions to be used for blackmailing.
The women would also act being ill suddenly and gangsters would rush into the scene, pretending to be neighbours.
Promising to settle the issue, the gangsters would take the victims to safe hideouts and take away all their valuables.
