By the time the parents sent a family friend to the hospital, the doctors had declared her dead.Expressing doubts over the circumstances leading to death, her cousin Pillamsetty Harish said the college management had claimed that the girl had committed suicide by hanging herself with a rope in the bathroom. He said her dress was torn and blood stains were found on her dress. Scratches were found on her body, he said and alleged that it was an unnatural death.Harish asked why the college management did not give first aid if she was found unconscious. They did not even call 108 services, he alleged. She had not taken lunch on Saturday, he said.The girl’s mother Lakshmi Devi said her daughter spoke to her on Saturday morning and had asked for `500 to celebrate her birthday on January 11. She said she had agreed to send the money. Her daughter had no problems and no need to commit suicide, she said. Lakshmi said that she was hoping her daughter to become an engineer.Guntur DSP P. Rajakumar said that Sai Kumari went to the bathroom and locked it. “We don’t know whether she committed suicide or died unnaturally. Only after getting the post-mortem report, we can tell the cause of death. We have registered the case as a suspicious death,” he said.Student organisations staged a dharna at the hospital and mortuary and demanded action against those responsible for her death. Guntur SP A. Ravi Krishna said he would order an inquiry into the student’s death. Naga Sai’s father Srinivas Sinha works with the LIC.Bhashyam institutions director Bhashyam Hanumantha Rao denied charges that the girl died due to negligence of the management. Meanwhile, the accused has absconded. The incident occurred under Kanchili police limits in Srikakulam district.Police said the incident came to light on Sunday after village elders put pressure on the victim’s parents to lodge a complaint. Investigation Officer SI Srinivasa Rao told newsmen that a case under Section 354 was registered against the 24-year-old driver, Subratho Panda, who allegedly molested the 7-year-old girl on January 3 and 5. The accused, who used to drive the school autorickshaw, had been molesting the Class 2 girl after dropping all the other children.Parents also stressed in their complaint that the driver had taken advantage of the fact that the victim had to travel alone for two km in the autorickshaw to reach her village after the other students got down.Police said that Subratho allegedly molested the girl during the journey home. “The accused absconded after he heard about discussions on what action to be taken against him,” Rao said. Srinivasulu said the girl was studying at Muddireddypalli government school, and was staying with her weaver parents at Polepalli Ramakrishna Veedhi in Muddireddypalli.On January 1, the 40-year-old Ramesh, who was also a weaver, lured the girl while she was playing alone outside her house, offering chocolates. Ramesh took the girl inside the house and allegedly made a rape attempt. When she tried to resist, the man gagged her using clothes. When the girl became unconscious, he fled.The girl informed her parents about the incident when they returned home. But, locals allegedly tried to solve the problem through a private settlement and forced the parents not to lodge a complaint with the police. Rajan was caught by the police team in the bathroom.Raped woman stable, say copsHyderabad: The 21-year-old woman who was confined and raped in a house by her former employer was taken to Gandhi Hospital. Her condition is stable, said Kukatpally police.The abductor Krishna Rajan is from Maharashtra. He runs a packers and movers service at Sainagar, Balanagar. He turned up at the young woman’s home in Eluru on December 30 and got her to accompany him by lying to her that her father had met with an accident in Hyderabad city.“Krishna lied to her that her father’s condition is critical after an accident, and brought her to the city by bus. On the way he drugged her. After reaching the city, he took the unconscious woman to his house in an autorickshaw and confined her,” Kukatpally Inspector K. Srinivas Rao said.Whenever anyone asked him what was the matter with the woman he convinced them that she was his wife, and he was taking her to hospital since she was not well, a police officer said.A relative of the woman said she was a computer operator in Rajan’s company till six months ago. “Rajan used to stalk her and talk in obscene language. He had also tried to molest her a few times. Later he kept on demanding she marry him. She quit the job and came back to her native place in Eluru,” the relative said. The woman lived with her mother in Eluru while her father stayed in Kukatpally.The woman managed to send a message to her father that she had been confined in Rajan’s house. He contacted the police.Kukatpally police have booked a case against Rajan under IPC section 376 for rape and 363 for abduction. Since the incident occurred in Balanagar, Kukatpally police have transferred the case to the Balanagar police station. Both are residents of Ganamestri Palya in Kunigal taluk.When she resisted, Krishnashetty allegedly offered her Rs 500 and threatened her not to reveal about the incident. On Sunday, he allegedly attempted to assault her with axe. Luckily, she noticed the accused approaching her and shouted for help. With the majority community rejecting this demand, hostility grew between the Hindus and Christians in the village, though both people belong to the same Nadar caste.On Sunday evening, around 150 men and women belonging to the Christian faith gathered at the church and went in procession to the bus stop. When they tried to damage the name-board of the village there, the Hindu group opposed it and complained to the police. He arrived for studies at 6.17 pm on Friday and was late by two minutes. After the study class, which finished at 10.30, Ram Mohan, the warden, called him and started to abuse him verbally. After that, he pushed my son to the wall and started to slap him continuously,” said Sa-chin’s father K.C. Thomas. “We were informed about the incident on Saturday afternoon only. We rushed to the school by which time the right side of his neck had swollen profusely. We took him to a nearby hospital and lodged a complaint at Vadakara Police Station. Though he was rushed to the hospital, he died on Sunday morning.The man, Benny Joseph, 38, was a native of Kaduvakuzhi near Erattupetta in Kottayam.According to po-lice, he was taken into custody on the complaint by a woman that she was harassed by him over the phone.“He was found hanging on the first floor of the station on Saturday evening, arou-nd 5:45 pm,” police said.Kasargod SP, S. Surendran, suspended two policemen at the station —Narayanan (head constable) and Muraleedharan (constable) — on Sunday.He told DC an investigation is on to find out how the accused climbed the stairs to the first floor without the police knowing about it.The body was taken to the medical college hospital, Kozhikode, on Sunday afternoon for postmortem.
