A day before trial, rape victim’s tongue cut?off

Lucknow: In a shocking incident, the tongue of a minor gang-rape victim was chopped off in Pratapgarh district, late on Wednesday night.
The girl has been admitted to a hospital and her condition is said to be serious. Doctors say she may have to live with speech impairment all her life.
According to reports, the minor girl had been gang-raped on January 22 and was scheduled to give her statement before the court on July 24.
The main accused is in jail but the other two accused are on the run. The girl’s family had lodged a complaint with the police stating that they were being pressurised to withdraw their complaint against the accused.
They said that Lalji, the brother of the main accused, had attacked the girl with a sickle to prevent her from giving her statement in court. There were three other accomplices in the crime.
The police said that a manhunt for the main accused had been launched while one of the co-accused Indel had been arrested.

Hyderabad: Police arrested two persons for cheating unemployed youth by making false promises of getting them jobs in reputed companies. and collecting huge sums. The duo collected about Rs 20 lakh. Police recovered Rs 5 lakh in cash from the accused. The arrested are Bharath and Raghavendra, both friends and residents of Saroor Nagar.
According to police, the duo targeted unemployed youth in search of suitable jobs. They collected details of such persons and later contacted them with proposals of attractive job opportunities. The accused named some reputed organizations to convince the aspirants.
A.V.R. Narsimha Rao, inspector, Saroor Nagar said, “The accused collected about Rs 20 lakh and promised that the jobs would be confirmed. After this, they fled with the cash and were absconding.” The duo was sent to judicial remand.

Hyderabad: The police on Thursday arrested a chain snatcher, in Saroor Nagar and recovered stolen ornaments/goods worth about Rs 7 lakh. He was taken into custody under suspicion and during interrogation he confessed to the crime.
The man arrested has been identified as Habib Abbaz, 32. Apart from chain snatching, Abbaz has committed thefts and is also wanted in many cases at various police stations in the city.On Wednesday, the Saroor Nagar police found Abbaz moving in the area, in a suspicious manner. Soon he was taken into custody and interrogated.
According to Sudarshan Rao, sub-inspector of police, Saroor Nagar, “Abbaz is a noted criminal and is wanted in many cases at various police stations. Initially we took him into custody and questioned him about chain snatching. Though he first denied, he later confessed.”
The police, after the confession, arrested him and recovered about 18 tola gold, two two-wheelers, two cell phones, a watch and a camera from his possession. The total value of the seized property is around Rs 7 lakh.
“Abbaz is not the only one to commit offences, he maintains a gang as well. Most of the times he commits the offences alone, but in other cases, he would take the help of his associates,” said the inspector. A case has been registered and he was sent to judicial remand.
