M.A. Shamsudin
Kochi: A day after a businessman was brutally murdered in Nettur, a land broker who had aided him in many land dealings was taken into custody on Tuesday. The cops suspect he committed the crime following a financial dispute.
M.A. Shamsudin, 61, owner of Kings Shoe Mart and partner of Sea Kings Hotel, was found stabbed to death at the Nettur International Vegetable Market around 10pm on Monday night. Police recovered the ID card of one Joshi, 46, a resident of Karithara, from the spot. The locals had seen him with the victim on the fateful night. Joshi was on the run but cops apprehended him from Cherthala Tuesday morning.
The police recovered his mobile phone and ID card from the spot which provided the crucial lead.
“Joshi is a land broker who had helped Shamsudin in many financial dealings. The duo reached the market around 9pm and had a few drinks inside the latter’s vehicle. We suspect the victim owed several lakhs to Joshi and the duo got into an altercation over it which ended in the accused stabbing the businessman,” a police source said.
Though the police have taken Joshi for interrogation, he is yet to be officially arrested. “We are yet to collect crucial evidence as there was no witness in the case.”
However, police said that this murder has no connection to the murder of Imtiaz of Vaduthala, in the city two weeks ago.
