Rs 3 crore gone in 10 mins
Bengaluru: In a broad daylight gold heist on Friday afternoon, two masked men barged into the office of India Infoline Finance Limited in Rajarajeshwarinagar and escaped with 9.092 kg of gold jewels, worth about Rs 2.8 crore, and Rs 6 lakh in cash after threatening the staff with a revolver and a dagger.
Police said the office, located at the first floor of a commercial complex on Jawaharlal Nehru Road in BEML Layout third stage, had three women staff — Bhamini, the branch manager, Uma, customer care executive, and Pramila Kumar, gold officer — office boy Gangadhar and security guard Shivakumar.
Around 12.45 pm, two men, wearing helmets, black leather jackets and gloves, came to the office and dragged the guard inside. They reportedly pointed a revolver and a dagger at the staff and asked all the five to sit in the strong room.
The duo asked Bhamini to open the locker and collected the gold jewellery, pledged with the company, andcash into two bags they had brought. The duo left behind around one kg of gold jewellery as the bags were full.
“Later, they locked the staff in the strong room and escaped with the valuables. After a while, the staff managed to come out by breaking open the back door of the strong room and informed the police. The robbers were there for just five to ten minutes,” the police explained.
“There are two CCTV cameras installed in the office and the wire of the camera near the strong room was cut by the one of the robbers. However, their movements have been captured in the CCTV footage, which is being examined,” the police added.
The police also said that there were lapses in the security arrangements at the firm.
“The manager failed to press the button of the anti burglar alarm system, that was right beneath her desk. Further there no weapon was provided to the security guard and he was also not trained. The firm had not installed CCTV camera at the entrance of the office. No one has seen how the miscreants came and left,” the police pointed out.
Following the incident, senior police officers rushed to the spot along with sniffer dogs.
Police Commissioner Raghavendra H Auradkar, who visited the spot, said, “It is a well planned robbery and the miscreants might have visited the office a few times to plan it. We have collected the visuals captured by the CCTV cameras installed in the office and are trying to identify the miscreants.”
Three special teams have been formed to crack the case.
Rajarajeshwari Nagar police have registered a case and are investigating.
