Bengaluru: A 27-year-old interior designer-turned-professional robber, wanted by the Kerala and city police, was arrested by the South East division police for threatening a woman to pose naked with his associates when the gang barged into her house to commit a burglary earlier this month. The seven-man gang had made a CD of the pictures and video and was blackmailing the woman to pay them Rs 10 lakh not to circulate the CD.
The robbers struck the victim’s house in BTM Layout last month. Finding the woman at the house, the main accused, G. Wasim, threatened her to pose in the nude along with one of his associates. She also had a relative in the house when the incident occurred.
Wasim then blackmailed her relative to pay Rs 10 lakh if he did not want the obscene pictures and video to be uploaded on the internet and circulated. The victim and her relative lodged a complaint with the police fearing humiliation if the pictures and video were leaked.
The jurisdictional police arrested Syed Shoukath (23), Samsheer (24), Khaleem Pasha alias Lodde (40), Mohammed Khalandar (24) and Dastagir (27). But the mastermind, Wasim, and his right-hand man Nizamuddin (24) of Yelahanka managed to escape. They were arrested on Friday from Periyar Circle on the Tammery Road, the police said.
The police recovered the CD containing the obscene pictures of the woman from Wasim’s residence on Mosque Road in Govindapura.
His associate, Shoukath, who works as a videographer, had recorded the nude video of the woman. Before escaping, the gang had robbed the victims of their valuables, including cash, gold ornaments and mobile phones. They had sold the duo’s mobile phones in the black market.
After recording the nude photos and videos on his mobile phone, Shoukath had converted the video into a CD format and kept threatening the victims, added the police.
Wasim and his associate Khaleem Pasha were involved in a dacoity case in 2012 at Kasorgod in Kerala. The Kambala police had registered a case. Wasim is also wanted by the DJ Halli police in connection with a robbery, the police said.
All the accused have been remanded to judicial custody. Wasim and Khaleem Pasha might be led away by the Kerala police in connection with the dacoity case.

Elderly man killed
Hyderabad: A retired employee of the Nuclear Fuel Complex was found murdered in his home in Dammaiguda in Keesara mandal on Wednesday morning.
The incident came to light when the neighbours noticed a foul smell emanating from the house and informed the police.
The deceased, A. Rama Krishna Rao, 63, had injuries on his legs and other parts of the body. Police suspect he was strangled but the cause of death is yet to be confirmed. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
Though his mother lived in the same house, she claimed to know nothing about what had happened. Inspector K. Krishna Kishore of Keesara  said he received a call from the neighbours of the slain man on Wednesday morning. The police suspects that he was murdered late on Monday.
Rao had married thrice and had a son from his first wife. His second wife had divorced him and third one passed away. According to locals, the son had come to the house and reportedly had an argument with Rao on Monday. Police is checking this angle and also if any property disputes had led to the murder.
“We asked his mother who was present in the house, but she could not give us any details as she herself is too weak and unwell. We have informed his brothers who stay in Vijayawada and are expecting them by Thursday,” Kishore said.
