BPO staffer sends SMSs from Radhika Pandit’s number, held

Bengaluru: A call centre employee has been arrested for allegedly disconnecting actress Radhika Pandit’s SIM card and getting another card with the same number. He had allegedly misused the number to send messages to her friends and several film producers.

The arrested, Abhishek (20), is from Kolar town. A second PU dropout, he was reportedly working at a call centre in Whitefield.

The Subramanyanagar police, who carried out the arrest, said that Abhishek had befriended a girl working with a mobile service providing company and posed himself as Jagannath, a serial actor, and a relative of Pandit. He had also assured the girl of a role in some serials.

“He misled her by saying that Pandit’s phone was lost and asked her to disconnect her number.

He also gave her the number of a SIM card and asked her to activate Pandit’s number on that card. The girl trusted him and did it. Meanwhile, Pandit did not know why her number had stopped working,” the police said.

“The accused then started sending messages to Pandit’s friends and some film producers, whose number he had managed to get. When they told Pandit about getting unnecessary messages from her number, she was shocked and filed a police complaint.

After the news was aired on some television channels, the accused had thrown the SIM away. But based on the complaint, the police swung into action and arrested him,” the police said.

“Abhishek was earlier working for serials and had managed to get the phone numbers of Pandit and other producers. The girl working with the service providing company was not aware of his prank,” the police said.

Abhishek had tried a similar prank earlier by misusing the number of actor Master Anand. The Kengeri police had let him off after a warning, the police said.
