‘Wife destroyed my career’

Bengaluru: They say revenge is a dish best served cold. So cold indeed, that the vengeful tactics used by this techie’s wife just might have her cooling her heels in prison.
The techie alleged that his wife hacked his email ID and sent defamatory emails on his behalf to his current employer saying he wanted to resign and even to potential employers saying he was not interested in working with them; leaving him unemployed.
According to a complaint filed, 32-year-old Sibil Kapoor (name changed), is a software engineer from Gurgaon, Haryana, employed with an IT giant. Kapoor came to the city in March for a project and began working at the software firm’s branch on ITPL Road.
He married Preeti Kalra (name changed) — a native of Uttar Pradesh — in November last year, and the couple have been staying at an apartment in Whitefield.
He alleged that the trouble started after some marital differences, which reportedly caused Preeti to move out of the couple’s home and back to her hometown in Uttar Pradesh.
Police said Kapoor used to check his emails frequently but had not revealed his password to anyone, not even his wife. For a gap of four-five days, the techie claimed he did not access his personal email account.
However, when he tried to access his account on July 2, he received a message saying his password had been changed the previous day.
Twenty days later, on July 22, when Kapoor tried accessing his email again, he got the same response from the server. It was only in the first week of August that he began putting together pieces of the puzzle.
Kapoor’s employer in Gurgaon called him, demanding an explanation for an email sent to the company’s vice-president and HR department, allegedly using foul language and defamatory terms.
Kapoor had no idea how to react to his employer’s questions. He stated that he was unaware that his account had been hacked, trespassed and accessed in the most unauthorised manner by an unknown person.
The content of the emails sent to Kapoor’s employer was so damaging, that it resulted in his immediate termination.
The hacker even sent emails to his prospective employers saying he was uninterested in changing jobs or carry forward any recruitment process with them.
The techie approached the Superintendent of Police at the CID.He old police he suspects that his wife Preeti and her parents are involved in the hacking. A case has been registered with the cyber crime police, who are probing the matter.
