Bengaluru: Upset about a marriage that was on the brink of a collapse, a 28-year-old newlywed software engineer, who was reportedly in love with another girl, hung himself after locking his wife in the bedroom. The incident took place at his flat behind Anjaneya Swamy temple, in Dodda Banasawadi, on Sunday morning.
The deceased, Deepak, was working as a senior software engineer at a reputed company in Whitefield. He was married to Anusha Gowda on June 25. The couple hailed from Kolar and the deceased’s wife, Anusha, is an M.Tech student at a private college.
The married couple, who moved to the city, lived alone, while their parents reside in Kolar. Deepak was reportedly in love with another girl, who was in constant touch with him but did not reciprocate his feelings.
This led to frequent squabbles between the newlyweds. On Saturday night, Deepak was reportedly speaking to the girl over phone when Anusha confronted him, the police said.
“This led to a heated argument between them and Anusha, in a fit of rage, damaged household articles and valuable gadgets. Their fight continued the entire night and extended into the morning.
On Sunday, an enraged Deepak dragged Anusha into the bedroom and locked her up. Later, he wrote a suicide note and hung himself from the ceiling fan in the drawing room,” the police said.
“As he did not open the door for some time, and did not respond to her, Anusha managed to alert one of her neighbours, who entered the house and broke open the door and found Deepak hanging from the ceiling fan. They immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead. We were later informed about the incident,” the police said.
“In his suicide note, Deepak has stated that he was responsible for his death and was taking the extreme step as he could not love his wife in equal measure. He has also stated that he was in love with a girl for the past few years, but she turned down his proposal for marriage. However, they had frequent phone conversations ,” the police said.
“Deepak has stated that he wished to live happily with his wife, but was upset with her as she questioned his fidelity. He has apologised to his parents for committing suicide and asked them to take care of Anusha,” the police said.
The police questioned Deepak’s parents about his love affair, but they claimed he was not in love with any girl.
“They have given a statement that they had asked him before his wedding whether he was in love with anyone. As he had denied it, they fixed the marriage with Anusha. They suspect that he took the extreme step because of workpressure. We are investigating the case from various angles,” saidthe Banaswadi police, who have registered a case.
