Crores follow Reddy to Andhra Pradesh
Police seized Rs 4.95 crore in cash as it was being transported from Bellary in Karnataka to an undisclosed destination in Andhra Pradesh, adding a new twist to the illegal mining case.
This took place on a day when former tourism minister G. Janardhan Reddy’s sibling and BJP legislator, G. Somashekhar Reddy, was grilled in Hyderabad by CBI sleuths on Thursday.
Official sources said the cash-laden truck was intercepted soon after it crossed the state’s border with AP following a tip-off by the investigating agency. The driver and cleaner were taken into custody. Local police were tight-lipped on other details including the source of cash and identity of the duo in the truck.
Sources said though Somashekhar Reddy and his elder brother, G. Karunakar Reddy, also a former minister, were summoned for questioning by CBI officers on Friday, the younger of them, appeared on Thursday.
Karunakar Reddy and representatives of certain mining firms of Bellary are likely to be quizzed on Friday.
A key complainant in the illegal mining case, Tapal Ganesh and his brother Ekambar Nayak, representatives of Tapal Narayana Reddy Mining Company in Bellary and Antargangama Konda in Anantapur, also responded to notices and answered questions by the investigating officer at the CBI office in Hyderabad.
The investigating agency continued interrogation of the mining czar and his brother-in-law B.V. Srinivas Reddy, Managing Director of Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC), for the third consecutive day.
The Reddy duo were arrested on September 5 by a CBI team from Bellary after their homes were searched.
Caught red-handed
According to sources, the duo confessed that they had received the cash from incarcerated mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy’s men in Bellary and they were supposed to deliver the amount to a person at a check post on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
