Curfew clamped in Bareilly again
Curfew was clamped late on Sunday night in Bareilly district after a communal flare-up on Saturday that led to clashes between members of two communities.
According to the home department officials, additional forces have been deployed in Baradari, Prem Nagar, Qila and Kotwali areas.
District magistrate Abhishek Prakash said that no relaxation would be made in the curfew that was clamped on Sunday following clashes in Jagatpur and Kalibari areas.
Nearly 200 persons had been arrested on Sunday night in connection with the clashes, out of which 48 were booked for curfew violations.
According to reports reaching here, trouble began in the Baradari area when two groups clashed after a Janamashtami procession deviated from its fixed route and was stopped by some persons in Jagatpur Panwaria locality.
This led to heavy brick batting between two groups and firing in which three persons, including a mother-son duo, was injured.
The irate mob also torched a vehicle. Thereafter, people wet on rampage in the Kalibari area and also clashed with the police. To disperse the mob, the police resorted to lathicharge and fired tear gas shells, but the mob indulged in brick batting and firing in which around 15 people, including three policemen, were injured. All schools and colleges in the district have been closed till further order
