Curfew continues in six districts of Jammu region
Curfew remained in force in six districts of Jammu region Monday amid deployment of Army even as 10 people were arrested in connection with communal clashes in Kishtwar.
However, in Udhampur district, a two-hour relaxation in curfew was given in the morning that passed off peacefully, an official said.
“Curfew continues in several districts of Jammu region. The situation is limping back to normalcy. No untoward incident has been reported from anywhere,” divisional commissioner, Jammu region, Shantmanu told PTI.
Shantmanu said curfew was relaxed in Udhampur for two-hours from 6 am to 8 am, that passed off peacefully.
“A total of 68 shops, seven hotels and 35 vehicles have been damaged during the untoward incidents and three causalities have been reported so far (in communal violence in Kishtwar district),” Shantmanu added.
“Ten miscreants have been arrested for their involvement in Kishtwar communal violence and process of further arrests is on,” the state’s principal secretary home, Suresh Kumar said.
FIRs have been already registered and investigation is going on, Kumar said.
Apart from curfew in six districts of Kishtwar, Jammu, Rajouri, Udhampur, Samba and Reasi, restrictions under section 144 CrPC were imposed in Kathua and Doda district last night.
Some parts of Doda district were also under curfew.
Army has been patrolling the streets in various towns, including Jammu to strictly impose curfew and maintain law and order.
In Kishtwar, curfew entered fourth day Monday. It was imposed on Friday in wake of communal violence in which three persons were killed and over 20 persons were injured.
In Jammu and Rajouri, curfew was imposed on Saturday night in wake of communal clashes and Reasi, Udhampur, Samba and Bhaderwah Valley of Doda district came under curfew on Sunday.
