Curfew reimposed in some parts of Kashmir

Curfew was imposed again in parts of the Kashmir Valley including Baramulla, Pulwama and Anantnag and in Srinagar’s Maisuma area after surging crowds chanting pro-freedom slogans returned to streets on Saturday.

Stone-pelting was also witnessed in certain areas as the youth clashed with the police.
No relaxation in curfew was allowed in southern Kakapora township and in north-western Sopore whereas the police and the CRPF continued to impose security restrictions in some parts of central Srinagar under Section 144 Crpc disallowing assembly of five or more persons.
Kakapora had witnessed pitched battles between mobs and CRPF and the local police contingents on Friday evening leaving, as per official statistics, 16 security personnel and five civilians injured.
Curfew had to be reimposed on neighbouring Pulwama as tensions heightened after a national TV news channel (News X) reported that one of the injured civilians had succumbed in a hospital. Though the news channel retracted the news and apologised for airing wrong information, the Pulwama police has registered a case against it and its local reporter.
Curfew was clamped on almost entire Kashmir Valley and the Army called out to stage flag marches in Srinagar areas earlier this week to hold back widespread protests and violence in the aftermath of the killing of four youth in police firings and beating.

Journos protest restrictions on movements in Valley
AGE CORRESPONDENT
SRINAGAR

July 10: Srinagar newspapers failed to hit the stands for the third straight day and the editors and owners have decided to suspend the publications indefinitely in the face of what they alleged is harassment and restrictions on the movement of mediapersons and the government’s inability to issue sufficient curfew passes.
Mediapersons staged a proteston Residency Road outside the Press Enclave where most of the newspaper offices and homes of correspondents are located.
However, the authorities denied the charge saying no restrictions had been imposed on the movement of mediapersons and that it was only because of unavoidable reasons that all the curfew passes issued were cancelled.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
