Custody of Pacheco is extended
The additional sessions court in Margao on Monday extended former Goa tourism minister Mickky Pacheco’s judicial custody by another day to Tuesday.
Mr Pacheco had surrendered before the court on Saturday after remaining underground for almost a month. After his bail plea was rejected, he had complained of chest pains and was admitted to the Hospicio Hospital in Margao on Saturday itself.
Mr Pacheco has been charged with culpable homicide in the mysterious death of his girlfriend Nadia Torrado, who had consumed anti-depressant pills and rat poison and had died on May 30.
Hearing the case on Monday, additional sessions judge P.V. Kamat was visibly upset as he pulled up the jailer for not providing an updated report on Mr Pacheco’s health. He said that the jailer did not deserve to continue in his post.
Meanwhile, the South Goa police has been directed to frame charges of rape and destruction of evidence against local politician John Fernandes, who was arrested for raping a 25-year-old Russian woman.
