CVC probing money spent on 3D displays of mascot Shera

Apart from the 16 initial projects which the CVC was investigating in connection with the Commonwealth Games, the watchdog agency is also looking into some other allegations of corruption pertaining to supply of three-dimensional displays of the Games Mascot “Shera” and re-modelling and upgradation in Major Dhyan Chand

national stadium and supply and installation of network equipment. Meanwhile, the teams of CVC as well as CAG will begin their investigations into the cases related to Delhi government, PWD, DDA and other civic agencies on Thursday.
Both CVC and CAG have issued notices to the Organising Committee to give details on the money spent on displays of Games Mascot including the 3D displays at various Metro stations, malls, Games sites and the Games Village.
“Apart from the original list of 16 CWG-related projects that were under the scanner of the Central Vigilance Commission, the CVC is also looking into allegations in connection with the supply of 3-D Shera displays,” confirmed a CVC official who added that so far the CVC has no information on the money spent on 3D Shera.
Sources have also pointed out that a special team of CAG which will begin the auditing process of Games related projects from October 28 has also asked the OC to give details on the money spent in the display of the mascot.
“However, the OC has yet to reply on the questions been raised on the mascot display,” said a source.
“Misappropriation in video board tenders for remodelling and upgradation of Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium were received by the CVC and in the case factual report is awaited from the Sports Ministry,” said a Central Vigilance Commission official.
Meanwhile, a team of the Comptroller and Auditor General’s (CAG) office would Thursday visit Delhi secretariat, the seat of the Delhi government, to look into the papers of various departments related to the Commonwealth Games. According to a government source, the team comprising five-six members will scrutinise the files of the departments of transport, public works, health and horticulture, among others, related to the mega sports event. The CAG team has so far inquired into the files regarding construction works by other stakeholders like the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
