CWG: Delhi beautification cost country Rs 101cr
A report by the Comptroller and Auditor General on beautification projects undertaken by the Sheila Dixit govt sure reads ugly.
The analysis estimates that close the nation lost a staggering Rs 101.02 crores in 'ill-conceived and ill-planned' projects that were executed in 'an ad hoc and arbitrary manner'.
"The street-scaping works were finally awarded at … Rs 3.63 crore to Rs 9.75 crore with an average cost of Rs 5.32 crore (per km). By contrast, the NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) adopts an estimated cost of Rs 9.5 crore/km for construction of a four-lane highway, and Indian Railway's estimated cost of construction of a track is around Rs 4.2 crore/km," the report said.
The findings allege inflated costs and claim that the government created a situation where the only solution appeared to be a higher, more expensive specification.
CM Sheila Dixit dismisses the allegations
Dikshit on Wednesday asserted she or her government has ‘not done anything wrong’ and said everything was done keeping in mind the ‘national interest and prestige’.
"We have not done anything wrong. Everything was done keeping in mind the national interest and prestige. We were entrusted with certain responsibilities and we delivered them," Dikshit said.
