CWG scam: FIR on 7 more
The CBI on Tuesday registered an FIR against seven officials of the Delhi Development Authority and the Central Public Works Department over alleged irregularities in awarding contract for installation of playing surface tracks for lawn bowling at the 2010 Commo-nwealth Games. The age-ncy also booked a private Delhi-based firm which had supplied synthetic tracks.
The CBI carried out searches at the premises of officials of the DDA, CPWD and the private company at over 20 locations in Delhi and Noida. Sources said synthetic tracks for lawn bowling were put up at three places — Yamuna Sports Complex, DPS R.K. Puram and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
The agency on Tuesday also sent a team of officials to London to inquire into two firms there in connection with its probe into alleged irregularities in awarding contracts on the Queen’s Baton Relay in London in 2009.
Regarding Tuesday’s searches, sources said the CBI registered cases against seven officials of the DDA, CPWD and the private firm on charges of conspiracy, cheating and misuse of official position by the accused to give undue benefit to the private firm. All accused were booked under Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, the sources added.
