D Company’s Iqbal Mirchi dies in UK of heart attack
Mohammed Iqbal Memon, better known as Iqbal Mirchi, died of a heart attack Wednesday night. No funeral details were disclosed by his lawyers or aides.
Mirchi, who owned property and construction business and a hotel in the UK, lived in a luxurious mansion in Essex, on London’s outskirts.
Mirchi, 63, who was wanted by the CBI in India, was the subject of an Interpol “red corner” notice since 1994 on narcotics-related charges. The CBI warrant, that was valid until February 2015, does not mention his links with the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts or with mafia don Dawood Ibrahim.
The Mumbai ganglord was named in a list of world’s top 50 drug barons and described as a senior member of the “D Company” crime syndicate led by Dawood. Mirchi, however, vehemently denied any link with Dawood.
