Dacoits loot `6 cr from Gujarat shop
In a blow to the law and order image of Gujarat, around 20 dacoits barged into a jewellery showroom and walked away with ornaments and cash worth `6.25 crores in Kosamba town in south Gujarat. The incident took place on Saturday evening on the eve of Dusshera celebrations.
The showroom owner, Ashwin Shah, in his police compliant stated armed dacoits who were veiled had stormed the shop and walked away with a booty at a gunpoint. KM Choksi Jewellers were shocked when a Hindi-speaking veiled dacoit walked up to the counter and pointed a gun at showroom owner Ashwin Shah and announced he would shoot everyone dead if they moved from their places. As many as 22 staff members were present at the time of the incident and before anyone could react, a few more members of the gang barged into the premises with weapons and started collecting gold ornaments and cash. In a swift dacoity which lasted for less than eight minutes, the dacoits walked off with a booty in jute and plastic gunny bags. About a dozen dacoits stood outside the shop with arms.
The dacoits pelted stones at those who tried to follow them and crossed the railway track and disappeared in the open fields. The entire dacoity has been recorded in the CCTV cameras and the police has obtained the footage for investigation.

Prez secy wants RTI amended

Oct. 17: Taken aback by the law ministry’s disclosure of the letter written by former Chief Election Commissioner N. Gopalswami against his then colleague Navin Chawla, the Presidential secretariat has written to the department of personnel and training to frame guidelines and make required changes in the act, that ensures that the government is not put to inconvenience.
The Presidential Office which received the complaint from Mr Gopalswami forwarded it to the PMO which in turn sent it to the law ministry. When noted RTI activist Mr S.C. Agrawal sought the contents of the letter, it was denied by the President’s secretariat citing the “confidential” clause.
But the law ministry disclosed the 93-page letter to BJP leader Arun Jaitley and Rajasthan-based S.S. Ranawat.
