Ruling that there can never be a graver and more heinous crime than father raping his daughter, a local court here on Thursday awarded rigorous life imprisonment (RI) to Sudhir, who raped his 14-year-old daughter in the Paravoor sex scandal case.

Ernakulam additional sessions court additional district judge P.G. Ajith Kumar, while issuing the order, also imposed a fine of Rs50,000 on Sudhir, the prime accused in the case, who later forced his daughter into flesh trade.

Declaring that the accused was not entitled to leniency, the court observed, “The victim girl was a prospective and ambitious child. If the accused is able to live freely, that certainly will disable her to lead a peaceful life. So the punishment should be severe,” the court said.

“Charged of raping his own daughter under his refuge and fortress is worse than the game keeper becoming a poacher and treasury guard becoming a robber,” the court held.

Sudhir raped his daughter in April, 2009 in the bedroom of their house. More than 100 persons from all walks of life were arrested in the case. A police team filed the first charge sheet. The rest of the charge sheets against the other accused will be filed soon.

The prosecution argued that when the crime was one by the father against his own daughter, it was a graver and rarest of rare case. “Rape is a crime more heinous than murder, as it destroys the very soul of hapless women,” the prosecution argued.

The court awarded the RI for the offence under section 376 (rape) of IPC, one year imprisonment under section 506(1) (criminal intimidation) and six month simple imprisonment under section 23 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. The sentence will run concurrently and the amount should be paid to the victim girl, the court held. “Let there be no another father raped girl in the society,” court said

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
