Daimary ‘admits’ role in Assam blast
The CBI, which was probing serial bomb blasts of October 30, 2008, that killed about 85 people and injured more than 500, has been able to establish its charges against outlawed National Democratic Front of Bodoland with its chief Ranjan Daimary confessing his involvement.
Disclosing that agency may file a supplementary chargesheet in the case. The CBI had filed the first chargesheet in May 2009. CBI superintendent of police N.S. Kharayat, who is heading the investigation, told this newspaper that their first chargesheet has also been vindicated with the confession of crime by NDFB chief Ranjan Daimary.
The CBI in its chargesheet had named Daimary as the prime accused along with 18 other NDFB cadres.
Informing that dreaded NDFB rebel has also admitted that entire conspiracy of serial bomb blast was hatched by them only, Mr Kharayat said that there was no involvement of groups such as Ulfa or HuJI militants in the bomb blasts.
The agency has also found some connection of NDFB chief in Netherlands, though it is still under investigation, he said adding that they have retrieved a lot of mails being written to an individual in Amsterdam about their armed struggle. Daimary had sent two NDFB cadres, who had their first meeting at Srirampur in West Bengal, to arrange logistic for serial bomb blasts and identified the cadres to execute their action plan.

CBI apprehends Bodo rebel behind ’08 blast

GUWAHATI
May 27: In a major breakthrough the CBI on Thursday apprehended NDFB rebel Rahul Brahma alias Khargeswar Basumatary who had planted one of the nine serial bomb blasts that rocked Assam on October 30, 2008. Confirming the arrest of NDFB rebel to this newspaper, the CBI SP N.S. Kharayat said, “We were tracking down him for past several days as his location was identified in North Lakhimpur district of Assam but he was changing his whereabouts frequently. Acting on a tip off, a CBI team apprehended Rahul Brahma from a place zero in Arunachal Pradesh at about 5 pm today.”
