Darda appointed ABC chairman for 2010-2011
Hyderabad, Sept. 17: Mr Vijay Jawaharlal Darda, the Rajya Sabha MP and chairman and managing director of the Lokmat group of newspapers, was unanimously elected as the chairman of the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) for 2010-2011.
He has been a member of ABC’s council of management since 2003 and was the deputy chairman of the bureau in 2009-10.
Mr Darda is a veteran journalist and has served in many national and international media bodies over the years. He was the president of the Indian Newspaper Society in 1998 and founder president of the South Asian Editors Forum.
He is also the recipient of the prestigious Feroze Gandhi Memorial Award and author of several books.
Mr Vijay Darda was first elected to the Rajya Sabha in July 1998 and thereafter re-elected twice in July 2004 and June 2010. He has also been a member of several standing committees, including the standing committee on the ministry of finance, and information and broadcasting ministry.
Mr Sam Balsara, the CMD of Madison Communications, was unanimously elected as the deputy chairman of ABC.
The members of the ABC’s council of management include Mr T. Venkattram Reddy, the chairman of Deccan Chronicle Holdings, among others.
