Dawood running flourishing empire in Pak

Two of the recent phone calls of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim intercepted by the Intelligence Bureau have not only confirmed his presence in Pakistan but reveal that he continues to run a flourishing empire out of Karachi. This new revelation is at complete variance from claims of former Pakistan diplomat Shahryar Khan that Dawood Ibrahim had been chased out of Pakistan.

The IB had mounted surveillance on Dawood after special cell roped in the country’s premiere intelligence agency after it intercepted his call to a close bookie in Dubai in March this year. Sources said Special Cell had confirmed Dawood’s numbers and voice with the intelligence agency and asked it to conduct further investigations as those were not related to the IPL spot fixing case.
The Special Cell also gave details of two other calls of Dawood which it had intercepted to the intelligence agency. Sources said Dawood changed his mobile number immediately after the March interception by the special cell but the intelligence agencies cracked his new number as well.
Details of the two calls intercepted by the IB reveal that Dawood is talking to a close associate in London, whose identity is being established and talking about some narcotics deal. Even in the earlier two calls intercepted by the special cell, which have not been mentioned in the IPL chargesheet, Dawood is said to be talking to a person in London but was “extremely guarded’’ in his conversation.
The call data pattern of all the calls, both on the new and old numbers, reveal that the underworld don continues to operate out of Karachi. Like his old number, the don, sources said, was again using the ring tone of a Bollywood film from the 70s. Thus, Indian security agencies have completely rubbished claims from any quarters that Dawood was not present in Pakistan. Intelligence agencies have already run a voice spectrum test on Dawood’s voice samples that confirm beyond doubt that the voice is that of the underworld don.
“There is enough confirmation about Dawood’s presence in Pakistan. The dossier on Dawood is also being updated accordingly,’’a senior Government official said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
