Dawood trying to revive gang

After keeping a low profile for sometime, fugitive don Dawood Ibrahim has started reviving his activities not only in Mumbai, but also in neighbouring cities. According to the Intelligence Bureau’s latest dossier on the gangster, the gang’s activity has increased over the last few months. The dossier also gives out names of his associates who are handling the gangs and other illegal activities in the city.

The dossier that was prepared last week (a copy of which is with this newspaper), states that a man named Mubasir a Mumbai-based associate of Ibrahim is now believed to be looking after the property wing of the D-gang. According to the IB report, Mubasir is believed to be the relative of Abdul Razzak Memon. Memon is the father of Tiger Memon, mastermind and wanted accused of the 1993 serial bomb blasts.
Mubasir is in constant touch with his Dubai-based coordinator who is referred to as Bhai. During one of the conversations intercepted by the IB, Mubasir is heard pleading to Bhai and asking him to call Parvez Lakra — a city-based builder and instruct him to handover certain property papers to an unidentified individual, who is referred to as landlord. Further during the conversation, Mubasir indicated that they would be paid and the landlord may give them a “big assignment” if this worked out well. During this conversation Bhai was apparently heard reprimanding Mubasir and asking him not to accept minor jobs.
Further, according to the dossier, in August 2010, Mubasir, discussed a likely deal for a plot in Nashik, with Bhai. Bhai then goes on to assure him that he would support him in the land acquisition deal.
The alert also states that the D-gang is likely to kidnap a man named Imran Jindani for huge ransom.
Further, the dossier also mentions the activities of Chhota Shakeel. Shakeel is said to be making further efforts to strengthen his fake Indian currency network in Nepal. Two men called Kamal and Nurullah, both based out of Nepal are facilitating this.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
