Days to go before hanging

As the countdown for hanging of two rapists at Hindalga prison begins, more than 60 relatives of death row convicts Shivu Munis-hetti and Jadeswamy Rangashetti from Bhadrayanahalli of Kollegal taluk were allowed to meet the two inside the condemned cells of the prison for the last time on Monday.

Shivu’s sister tied a rakhi to him at the prison and prayed to God to prevent him from the gallows and allow him to live a longer life!
Several top police officials also visited the jail to take stock of the final preparations being done to carry out the hangings. The state government is hanging prisoners after a gap of 30 years, with last one being done in 1983 at Hindalga.
After meeting Shivu Munishetti, his mother Chellamma (65) and sister Shantamma (40) threatened to commit suicide outside the jail by consuming poison if he is hanged.
The two blamed some of the leaders in Kollegal taluk for their son’s plight.
