Dead Visakhapatnam sailor was to go home
Visakhapatnam: In Visakhapatnam, the families of Dasari Prasad and T. Rajesh the mechanical engineers who were killed in the submarine accident were in shock.
Rajesh, a resident of Nellimekka in Peda Gantyada, had joined the Indian Navy as a sailor in 2002 and his first posting was in Mumbai.
His parents Appala Naidu and Krishnaveni said that he was their younger son and had married Jyothi on June 23, 2011.
Rajesh had been transferred to Mumbai two months back as a mechanical engineer on the submarine. His father said, “I received a phone call from Rajesh on Tuesday and he said that he would be boarding INS Sindhurakshak for around two weeks, but the mishap claimed my son’s life.”
A pall of gloom also descended on the residence of D.V. Murthy, elder brother of Dasari Prasad, at Gopalapatnam in the city. Prasad’s friend said that he was a diploma certificate holder and had worked for some years in Vizag.
Prasad’s wife is pregnant and he was supposed to leave for his wife’s hometown on Thursday as she is supposed to deliver on August 18. Prasad’s brother, Murthy, who is employed at Eastern Naval Command in Vizag, left for Mumbai soon after got the news.
Meanwhile, the Navy has ordered a Board of Inquiry into the accident. It will also probe whether standard operating procedures were violated and whether poor maintenance and human error were responsible.
