Deadline over, CM takes to streets today
Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa threw down the gauntlet on Thursday, telling the Governor H.R. Bhardwaj in no uncertain terms that he had until Thursday evening to accord sanction for the state Cabinet's proposal to convene the legislature session from June 2 or face the wrath of the people.
Mr Yeddyurappa warned that his party would launch a state-wide agitation if the Governor failed to accord sanction before Thursday night.
Earlier, on Wednesday evening, he had requested the governor to accord permission for holding the session.
By Thursday morning, the chief minister had run out of patience and announced that if the permission was not forthcoming, “we will tour the state in an open jeep and inform the public about the governor's refusal.”
“The Legislature session has been called to pass the full fledged budget but the Congress and JD(S) don't want this to happen and are instead misusing the governor's office. They have betrayed the people of the state,” Mr Yeddyurappa said.
According to him, the governor had undermined the Constitution by not agreeing to a Cabinet decision to call the session for the second time.
“We have not received any response from Raj Bhavan to our request,” law and parliamentary affairs minister Suresh Kumar said.
