Death for man who raped kid
Malappuram: The Manjery principal sessions court on Wednesday awarded death sentence to Abdul Nassar, 48, the accused in the rape and murder of Salwa, 9. He was also awarded seven years’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000.
Judge P.K. Haneefa said that the accused deserved “no mercy” as he had committed a heinous crime. The sentence will be subject to the High Court confirmation. The judge also granted the accused 30 days to file an appeal.
The judge observed that the prosecution had proved the guilt of the accused beyond doubt using mainly circumstantial and scientific evidence, Anas Varikkodan, public prosecutor, said.The incident took place on April 4, 2012 at Pookkottupadam near Nilambur in the district.
According to the prosecution, Salwa, daughter of Elluprambu Murikkankadan Suhra, came to the house of Nassar on the fateful day to meet her classmate and daughter of the accused, while on her way to a local madrasa.
The wife and daughter of the accused were not present in the house at the time. He raped her and later strangulated her using the shawl of her churidar. The body was found dumped in the bathroom of Nassar on the night of April 4 by police and local people. Suhra, who was present in the court along with her relatives, expressed satisfaction over the verdict.
