Deb gives Trinamul black money ‘proof’ to EC bench
CPI(M) central committee member Gautam Deb on Thursday said that he submitted to the EC evidence of his charges that the Trinamul Congress was using black money in the ongoing Assembly election. Mr Deb accompanied by former mayor of Kolkata and lawyer Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharyya and party leader Rabin Deb met the
full bench of the Election Commission headed by chief election commissioner S.Y. Quraishi. Mr Deb had dropped a bombshell on April 18 by alleging that he had proof that the Trinamul Congress was using huge sums of black money in the polls.
After his meeting with the EC officials, Mr Deb said, “I gave the evidence to substantiate my charge that Trinamul Congress was spending `33.90 crores in this election as they have distributed `15 lakhs among their 225 candidate.” He said that he had asked the EC to find out the details of these candidates’ bank accounts to know from where did they get such huge cash.
The CPI(M) leaders also drew the attention of the EC to the use of helicopter by Ms Banerjee for her election rallies across the state. Another issue which Mr Deb raised in his meeting with the EC was Trinamul Congress’ election advertisement campaign. “I have requested the EC to find out what are the total expenses in hiring two helicopters and the money which has been paid for extensive advertisement on various television channel?” he added.
Mr Deb handed over burnt subscription coupons which he alleged Trinamul Congress leaders burnt to erase proof of the use of black money.
