Dec. 16 rape trial is over, verdict to be on Tuesday
A fast-track court Tuesday concluded the trial of four adult accused in the horrific December 16 gangrape of a 23-year-old paramedical student in South Delhi, and will deliver its verdict on September 10.
Additional sessions judge Yogesh Khanna reserved his order after prosecution and defence counsel submitted final arguments in the case. Mr Khanna dismissed pleas for further arguments by defence lawyers. Rejecting the defence pleas, Mr Khanna said “You’ve delayed this trial far enough. My ruling will come on the 10th.”
The four accused could, if convicted, face the death penalty. The first verdict came Saturday when a juvenile court held guilty another acc-used, aged 17 during the crime, and sentenced him to three years in a detention centre.
