Declaring assets to end controversy: Ramdev aide
As yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Thursday declared his assets, his close aide Acharya Balakrishna said the measure was intended to put an end to the controversies being created on the matter.
“Some people have tried to spread rumours about the trust, so we thought we will end this matter once and for all,” Balakrishna told reporters. He said the assets of the trust were under government scrutiny already as they were declared to the income tax department every year.
“There is an audit every year. A balance sheet is made, what is earned, where it is spent, who gave it and where it went,” Balakrishna said. “We give our account details to the income tax department every year. Our trust’s licence is renewed every two years.
If there is any discrepancy in the accounts, the licence will not be renewed. There is total transparency so the renewal is given,” he said stressing that the system of running the trust and accounts is totally transparent. “We maintain pure character and there is total transparency in our economic matters,” he added.
Balakrishna said the total capital of different institutions associated with Baba Ramdev is nearly 426 crores, adding that Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust has spent 249 crores in charity and helping people during calamities. “From Bihar floods to disasters in Uttarakhand and tsunami, we have spent money on public service,” he added.
