Delhi fog: Weather disrupts air travel, 55 trains delayed
New Delhi: Flight and trains schedules were again disrupted on Monday as a heavy fog enveloped the national capital. The weather office, however, forecast a sunny day ahead.
Many passengers were stranded at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here with several flights running behind schedule.
Train timings were also affected due to the extreme weather and heavy fog with officials rescheduling of five trains and delaying 55 others.
55 trains are running late due to the foggy conditions, including Purshottam Express, Poorva Express, Farakka Express and Sealdha and Howraj Rajdhanis, railway officials said.
The railways have also cancelled some trains due to the Gujjar agitation in Rajasthan. The trains cancelled include the Kota Janshatabdi and Ajmer Shatabdi. The Dehradun Bandra Express and Mumbai Janata Express will not run for the next seven days, the officials said.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the fog would clear, making way for a sunny day.
"As the sun comes out and winds start to blow, the fog will clear up," an IMD official said.
The minimum temperature was 6.1 degrees Celsius, a notch below the average for this time of the season. The maximum is expected to hover around 19 degrees Celsius, he added.
The heavy fog also caused humidity levels to escalate as the maximum was recorded at 100 per cent, he said.
The minimum temperature, however, is expected to rise in the next few days as showers are expected in the next couple of days, the official said.
The coldest day of the season so far was December 22 when the minimum temperature dipped to 5.2 degrees Celsius.
