Delhi girl murder’s sketch out

Delhi Police on Wednesday released the sketch of a man who allegedly stalked a second year Delhi University student and shot her dead near her south Delhi college in broad daylight on Tuesday. The police also appealed to eyewitnesses to come forward to identify the man.

"Although many were present at the time, they have denied that they saw the assailant. The assailant had centre parting and was wearing a black shirt. The sketch is pretty approximate as no one has a clear picture," Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H.G.S. Dhaliwal told reporters.

Radhika Tanwar, 20, a resident of Naraina area in west Delhi, was a student of Ram Lal Anand College, located in Shantiniketan.

She was crossing a foot overbridge near Dhaula Kuan with her friends when suddenly a man shot her from the back and disappeared into the crowd of students and office-goers.

"Although there were many near the scene of the crime, they did not realise anything as they thought that someone had burst crackers. The accused deliberately chose that place because of the congestion and noise in the atmosphere," Dhaliwal said.

According to police, the assailant knew Radhika well and had been observing her schedule, including the bus which she boarded every morning to reach her college.

"We appeal through the media that whoever, whether it is friends or eyewitnesses, has any information about the assailant, can approach us without any hesitation and give the information. the identity of the person giving information will be kept secret," Dhaliwal added.

Hundreds of students from various colleges in Delhi University's South Campus on Wednesday held a rally at Dhaula Kuan to protest against the shooting.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit also met Radhika's parents and condoled her death and assured them of justice.
