Delhi Police announces bounty on ex-cricketer

Delhi Police today announced a reward of Rs 25,000 to those who will provide information regarding former cricketer Jacob Martin, wanted in connection with a human trafficking network.

"Despite repeated directions of the courts, Martin is not joining the investigation and still absconding. Delhi Police Commissioner has declared a reward of Rs 25,000 on Martin," DCP (IGI Airport) R.A. Sanjeev said.

Public has been requested to provide any kind of information leading to Martin's arrest, he said.

The Vadodara-based cricketer is wanted in connection with a case registered at IGI airport police station in 2003. He allegedly took some non-cricketers to the UK on the pretext of playing club cricket there in 2003 after taking money from them.

The matter came to light after one Nimesh Kumar was found travelling on a fake passport.

On questioning, Kumar disclosed that agent Rajender Bhiku Bhai Patel arranged his journey with the help of agents Martin and Janak Lal Bhogi Raj Pancholi for Rs seven lakh.

"Martin prepared a bogus cricket team 'Ajwa Sports Club' Vadodra, Gujrat and identified himself as a member (player) of the team," Sanjeev said.

During investigation, police repeatedly asked Martin to join the probe but he did not.

Martin filed an anticipatory bail application in February but it was dismissed by a local court after which he moved the Delhi High Court.

There also he did not get any respite.
