A Delhi Police assistant sub-inspector (ASI) shot at a head constable over a petty issue here Wednesday morning critically injuring him, police said.
The incident took place around 8.30 a.m. Wednesday in the Welcome area of east Delhi. The victim has been identified as Satender Khokar (27), who is a head constable in the 3rd battalion of Delhi Police. His assailant has been identified as his neighbour ASI Ramnath Upadhyay (59).
The victim received two bullet injuries on his chest and stomach. "He was rushed to the Guru Teg Bahadur hospital where his condition is stated to be critical," said a police official.
The official said Khokar and Upadhyay are neighbours and live in the Chhajjupur locality of Welcome area. "On Wednesday morning, when Khokar was about to go to work, he found garbage outside his house, that is adjacent to the house of one of ASI Upadhyay's relatives. Khokar asked the relative not to throw garbage outside the house.
"The ASI, whose house is near the relative's house, also came out after hearing the altercation. Some neighbours also gathered there after hearing the heated argument between Khokar and the ASI's relative. Meanwhile, someone pulled out Khokar's revolver to avoid any unfortunate incident but, enraged by the argument, ASI Upadhyay snatched the revolver and fired three bullets at Khokar," added the official.
The bullets hit Khokar on his chest, stomach and belt. "The accused fled from the spot leaving the victim in a pool of blood. One of the victim's neighbours rushed him to GTB hospital. The ASI is absconding and a case has been registered against him," added the official.
