Delhi teenager kills father over money

A 19-year-old boy killed his 60-year-old father here after a heated argument over money and tried to burn his body after leaving it in the house for two days, police said on Thursday. The accused, a Class 12 pass-out, has been arrested.

Jatin Dhiman, who passed Class 12 exam this year, was arrested on Wednesday from a red light area in central Delhi.

He allegedly killed his father Vijay Dhiman Sunday in west Delhi's Vikas Nagar after a dispute over the money which the family received after the death of the accused's mother, a government employee.

The teenager was upset over his father questioning him on the whereabouts of the money received from his mother's office, police said.

The incident came to light on Tuesday around 2 a.m. after police and fire department received a call informing them about a blaze in the accused's house.

The fire was doused and the half-burnt body of Jatin's father was recovered inside the house.

"Their neighbours informed that Vijay had an argument with Jatin Sunday. Since then Jatin was missing from his house. Jatin was arrested Wednesday from the G.B. Road red light area," said the officer.

Initially, Jatin tried to mislead the investigators but later broke down and revealed the facts about his father's death. His mother Chandrakanta worked in an ordnance factory and after her death, in February, he received Rs.5.87 lakh from her office.

"On Sunday, when Vijay asked Jatin about the money, a scuffle broke out between the two. Jatin beat up his father and strangled him. After that, he left the body in the house and locked it from outside. When he came back to his house Tuesday, a foul smell was emanating from the body. To escape arrest, he tried to burn the body," said the officer.
