Demand for papaya, goat milk soars

Call it a dengue effect: while the price of the goat milk has reached `150/kg, papaya’s demand has gone up too. As the number of dengue cases keep increasing, doctors say even they are not stopping people from adopting these home remedies.
Patients who have seen increase in their platelet count vouch for these remedies. Calling it a miracle cure for dengue, Arun Bajaj, a senior consultant with a Multi-National Company (MNC) said that the doctors saw a sudden spurt in his platelet count after he was given papaya leaf juice.
Ayurvedic researchers say that papaya leaf has been seen to help to increase the platelet by arresting their further destruction. Papaya leaf is also known to help regenerate platelets and white blood cells. Some enzymes called Chymopapin and papin in the papaya leaf help revive the platelet count,” feel experts.
The other home remedy which is most prevalent is goat’s milk. The demand has been so much has the price of goat milk which is not often consumed in cities by many has gone upto `150 per kg. “These days people have been asking for goat milk a lot. The price has gone up due to its demand,” said Juna Singh in Nangloi Jat in West Delhi area.
While, the cases of dengue has been increasing every day, doctors say that the downfall will soon be witnessed.
“The dengue mosquito cannot survive in low tempwerature. The cases are likely to go down after Diwali,” said a senior doctor in AIIMS.
There are four commonly categorised strains of dengue-I,II, III and IV. Type-II has been responsible for most cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF) the world over. This is the most aggressive form of the virus and usually causes dengue shock syndrome.
The total number of cases in Delhi has already crossed 1,000 mark so far. The fatal fever has claimed many lives in the country.
This time around doctors found unsual clinical symptoms with the fall of platelet count rapid in most patients.
The remedies, however, doctors say, may prove beneficial.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
