DGCA preliminary probe suggests no fire in Jet Airways plane

Preliminary investigations by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) into the fire alarm incident involving a Jet Airways plane at the city airport has suggested that there was no blaze in the aircraft, sources said.

"Initial investigations suggest that there was no fire alarm or fire in the Jet Airways plane on Friday," a DGCA source told PTI here on Saturday.

The probe is still on into the incident, the source said. Over 140 passengers on board a Chennai-bound Jet airways flight were deplaned on Friday using emergency services after the pilot reported fire in one of the aircraft's engine when it was on the taxiway of the city airport here on Friday evening.

As there was sudden surge of passengers when they were being evacuated using chutes, over 25 of them received injuries.

Of the 11 passengers, who were admitted to Nanavati and Sujoy hospital here, three suffered fractures while 15 others suffered bruises in the incident and were administered first aid by airport doctors.

According to a Jet statement on Friday, the commander of the flight was informed of an indication of an LH engine fire.

"Although there was no visible trace of a fire, the commander proceeded to declare a precautionary emergency," it said.
