Dhoni may fly Sukhoi soon
Victorious Indian cricket team captain M.S. Dhoni may soon fly in an Indian Air Force (IAF) Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter aircraft.
The matter came up for discussion at a “courtesy call” meeting between Dhoni and IAF chief Air Chief Marshal P.V. Naik in New Delhi on Monday evening, defence
sources have confirmed. Dhoni, known for his fondness for fast motorbikes, may soon scorch the skies in a Sukhoi, sitting in the co-pilot’s seat.
Air Chief Marshal Naik is understood to have told the World Cup-winning cricket team captain that the IAF will be happy to fly Dhoni in the Sukhoi fighter aircraft whenever he is ready.
Dhoni, accompanied by his wife Sakshi, met Air Chief Marshal Naik at the IAF chief’s residence on Monday evening. The IAF chief, along with other senior IAF officers, congratulated Dhoni on the Indian team’s victory in the just-concluded World Cup tournament.
It may be recalled that the IAF had earlier conferred the honorary rank of Group Captain on master batsman Sachin Tendulkar in 2010. However defence sources said on Monday that there were no plans to confer any IAF honorary rank on Dhoni.
