Did Gov spoil B S Yeddyurappa’s party?
Governor H.R. Bhardwaj may have failed to dislodge Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa with his recommendation for President’s Rule in the state, but he may have at least succeeded in spoiling Mr. Yeddyurappa’s party.
For the latter isn’t celebrating having completed three years in government. At least, not immediately.
BJP sources said that faced with uncertainty over the survival of the government until recently, they hadn’t been able to make preparations for what in the age of unstable governments has become ‘standard’ practice — holding an anniversary bash for each year that one survives in government.
For Mr Yeddyurappa, who has overcome crisis after crisis to complete three years in government, it’s no insignificant milestone. He did celebrate the first two years in government with gusto.
With little time left before the Assembly session starts on June 2, and Mr Yeddyurappa busy holding meetings in the districts and preparing for the BJP national executive meeting in Lucknow June 3-5, the party has no choice but to put off celebrations until after the session.
Party organizing secretary Santhosh said, though, that they would make it a point to hold the anniversary bash once the session ends.
On May 30, though, Mr Yeddyurappa will release a report of his government’s ‘achievements’ and hold a meet-the-press programme, sources close to him said.
