Did not say go back to Andhra: KCR
Hyderabad: TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao said on Sunday that his party will never accept it if Hyderabad is declared a Union Territory or made the permanent joint capital for Telangana and Andhra.
Denying media reports that he asked Andhra employees to go back to their native places, Rao clarified that he only said employees of both the regions will have to work in their respective governments.
“I merely said they will have to work for the Andhra government while Telangana employees will work for the Telangana government. I never said Andhra employees should go back. It is media misinterpretation of my speech,” he said.
He is keen to develop the neglected Telangana region and will roll out the red carpet for any investor from any part of the world, including the Andhra region, he said.
Rao was participating in a ‘Meet the Press’ programme organised by the Telangana Journalists Forum on Sunday. He said the TRS has no objection if the Andhra state government functions from Hyderabad for 10 years, provided the whole administrative control of Hyderabad capital city remains with the Telangana state government.
He said he was not asking anybody to leave as people from all regions of the country have been settled in Telangana for centuries. “We need investment and will roll out the red carpet for whoever comes here to invest.” Hyderabad will be a safest place for investments and Brand Hyderabad image will continue.
Reacting to reports that several Andhra leaders, including Union minister Chiranjeevi, are demanding that Hyderabad should be declared a Union Territory, Rao said, “It is not acceptable to people of Telangana.”
He also made it clear that the Telugu film industry will remain in Hyderabad and will be developed further.
Unveiling his vision of Telangana, he said he wants to see a smile on the face of people of Telangana who suffered injustice since the region's merger with Andhra State in 1956.
"The people of Telangana suffered injustice in all spheres of life and nobody can dispute this. Their resources were taken away, and they were denied employment opportunities. Now they will get justice, their due share, and will be able to live a respectable life."
When asked about the TRS's merger with the Congress, KCR said, "Let the bill creating Telangana state be formed. We will think of merging the party then and not before that.
We will also make all our demands and the promises we have made for Telangana part of the merger plan. If these are not acceptable, we will continue our TRS identity forever, as I have promised a Dalit should be made Chief Minister of the state. My role will be confined to an advisory one."
He said 10,000 MW power projects will come up within five years of the formation of Telangana state.
