Didn’t engage in any improper business activities: SIS Live
The UK-based SIS Live on Wednesday claimed in an official press statement that “several assumptions made by the Shunglu Committee were inaccurate”. SIS Live had the sole telecast rights of the Delhi Commonwealth Games.
The press statement further confirmed: “The SIS Live was never contacted by the probe panel (Shunglu Committee) and that it had made a profit of only half a per cent.”SIS Live would have been happy to cooperate in any reasonable way in order to ensure that the report was based on facts and produced in a balanced fashion,” added the press statement.
SIS Live further clarified that throughout the report, the committee suggested that SIS Live had undue influence during the tender process and contract negotiations. “SIS Live refutes these suggestions. The company operates to high ethical standards of business and did not engage in any improper business activities or attempt to influence the decision-making of Prasar Bharati”.
It also claimed that it had not “acknowledged” profits of `135 crore on the Games as mentioned in the report. “SIS Live has made no such acknowledgement and documents submitted to the Indian tax authorities provide clear evidence that the profits made by SIS were in fact very modest and likely to be less than one crore,” said the statement.
The Shunglu Committee, which went into alleged financial irregularities in Commonwealth Games, has indicted suspended Prasar Bharti CEO B.S. Lalli and Doordarshan director general Aruna Sharma, accusing them of “collusion” with the UK-based firm which benefited to the tune of `135 crores in the broadcast deal.
