Diesel to be cheaper by Rs 2.50 in Delhi
Diesel will cost Rs 2.50 less per litre in Delhi as the state government on Friday rolled back VAT on the fuel from the existing 20 per cent to 12.5 per cent.
The decision will help contain inflationary trends and bring relief to the common man, Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit said while announcing the rollback.
A litre of diesel will now cost Rs 37.60 against the current Rs 40.10. The new rate will come into effect from July 20. The decision to slash VAT on diesel, which was increased to 20 per cent from 12.5 per in the state budget in March, was taken at a state Cabinet meeting presided over by the CM.
However, Delhi finance minister A.K. Walia, who has been opposing any rollback, was not present at the Cabinet meeting on Friday. The Delhi-NCR Petrol-Diesel Association president, Ajay Bansal, said his association is happy with the diesel VAT rollback decision.
